Sandals: quite a story!

The Sandal & its history

Women's sandals are open-toed shoes, with or without heels, with or without straps, whose distinctive feature is to reveal the bare feet. They can be found in all materials, from canvas to rope and even plastic! They date back to the dawn of time. They were already on the feet of the vestal virgins of Ancient Rome.

They began as a sole attached to the foot to which a heel was added. Sandals gained a place in the hearts of women in the 1970s, when the hippie movement adopted these shoes, symbols of a return to nature. Today, they are worn both in the city and on the beach.

"The wonderful thing about sandals is that you feel like you're barefoot."

JULES & JENN Sandals

At JULES & JENN , we are committed to offering you timeless pieces to perfect your wardrobe of responsible and sustainable shoes and accessories.

Unlike disposable fashion, our models are made by artisans passionate about their work, and located in our workshops in France & Europe . They work every day in accordance with artisanal manufacturing methods & use the finest materials.

Since March 2017, we have been collaborating with a new family workshop , located in Florence, Italy. It is in this workshop that the flat sandals in full-grain dipped leather are made with the greatest attention to detail.

Our heeled sandals are made in our workshop in Porto , a traditional shoe-making region in Portugal. The workshop has been operating for almost 50 years and has real expertise in artisanal manufacturing.

Women's Sandals: Focus on Manufacturing

The first step in creating our women's sandals is to create the pattern for the various leather pieces that will make up the sandal. Using punches, the cutter cuts out the different parts of the model, either manually or with a press, from the chosen material. The pieces must be carefully cut to avoid natural defects in the leather.

If we use dipped leather, each piece is individually dyed, so that the edges of each piece are of a uniform color. The pieces are then patinated by hand individually. Then, whatever the material used, all the parts making up the upper are mounted on a mold, varying according to the size, in order to be fixed to the inner sole, which is also the insole. The pieces are glued and fixed before being dried. Finally, the leather outsole is fixed by glue, and sanded to obtain a perfect effect. After a final drying time, the assembly of the body of the shoe is complete. The mold is then removed from the sandal. Finally, the leather sandal is pampered to obtain an impeccable finish. Wrapped in tissue paper, the shoe is delicately placed in its JULES & JENN box. All that remains is to slip your feet into it…
