4 shoe trends for back-to-school 2023

While back-to-school season often means getting back into (good) routines, it's also the perfect opportunity to intelligently refresh our wardrobes, starting with our feet, and without forgetting our commitments! To help you with this, we asked Louise, our Product Manager, to share her predictions for the major trends coming up in her specialty: footwear. The result? She predicts a wave of creativity and boldness for the Fall/Winter 2023-2024 season, but also a return to basics, because this year more than ever, trends reflect both evolving aesthetic tastes and a heightened awareness of sustainability . So, whether you're a fan of sturdy boots, a devotee of timeless style and natural hues, or you prefer to explore innovative styles, this season has something for everyone!

1. Chunky boots revisited

Chunky boots (those sturdy boots or ankle boots with thick soles) will continue to dominate the fashion scene this fall/winter, but they're getting a makeover. Known for giving our outfits a bold look, they're back in the spotlight with even thicker and more vertiginous soles, unexpected texture combinations, and metallic details. Versatile and all-terrain, they're ideal for a statement style, and you can even dare to wear them with skirts to mix and match styles.

2. The comeback of the ballerina

We've always been told that "fashion is a never-ending cycle," and today's triumphant return of ballet flats proves it! Originally designed for ballet dancers, they've evolved over the years into stylish city shoes with countless variations: patent leather, elegant details, or bolder prints. Adopted by influencers and a staple at Fashion Weeks, they continue to charm with their French flair and comfort for strolling around town. Whether paired with a pencil skirt or flowing trousers for the office, or combined with jeans and an oversized sweater, they're sure to become a coveted everyday staple.

3. The call of nature

Given the growing importance of sustainability and connecting with nature, the fashion world must adapt, and the footwear sector is no exception. In terms of color, expect to see nature-inspired hues this fall/winter. Indeed, shoes in earthy tones such as brown, beige, camel, cognac, olive green, and burgundy will be highly sought after, as will animal prints (leopard, crocodile, etc.). Furthermore, organic and sustainable materials will also be prominent, with options such as distressed leather, suede, and vegan alternatives.

4. Mix and match!

In 2024, it's all about mixing and matching! This winter season will see the rise of a bold, existing trend: combining different styles of shoes and clothing (the famous "Mix and Match") to create unique and personalized looks. The focus is on breaking the rules and making creative combinations. You'll see surprising pairings, such as sporty sneakers worn with elegant outfits, classic loafers with visible socks, and formal shoes worn with casual pieces. This trend encourages experimentation and creativity in fashion and allows you to "reinvent" looks with pieces you already own, without over-consuming—a great idea, isn't it?
