Fashion Revolution: Let's get moving

What is the Fashion Revolution?
Fashion Revolution is a day specifically organized to encourage major fashion brands to be more transparent and take responsibility for their textile manufacturing practices. The goal? To raise awareness among consumers, professionals, and public authorities about the shortcomings of the fashion industry and to compel major brands to make clothing traceability publicly available by promoting 100% transparency regarding manufacturing conditions in the textile industry, from the raw material grower to the distributor!
When you buy a garment, take the time to ask yourself the right questions: Who made your clothes? Were people likely to have been exploited to make the cheap t-shirt you're wearing? This is the kind of information about the textile production chain that the Fashion Revolution collective would like to make mandatory on all labels.
This year, Fashion Revolution is expanding, taking place not just over one day, but over a whole week: from April 24th to 30th, thus transforming into Fashion Revolution Week. !
Last year, the movement covered more than 92 countries around the world, tens of thousands of people participated in the Fashion Revolution , let's hope for another success this year!
Fashion Revolution: Why?
On April 24, 2013, the Rana Plaza building—a garment factory in Bangladesh—collapsed, trapping thousands of workers inside who had been evacuated the previous day due to cracks in the walls. That same morning, factory owners had forced employees to return to work under threat of being fired without pay. The disaster resulted in 1,133 deaths and more than 2,500 injuries.
A tragedy far from unique in the textile sector… But the media repercussions made Rana Plaza an icon of awareness of the harsh conditions prevailing in the garment factories of major international Fast Fashion brands.

It was in the wake of this tragedy that the Fashion Revolution movement was born, initiated by Carry Somers, Lucy Siegel and Livia Firth, in order to annually revive discussions on the role of ethics in the fashion industry.
For almost 4 years, the fight has been gaining momentum to encourage consumers around the world to question brands and manufacturers in the fashion industry about the origin of the clothes they buy.

Take action by challenging the brands!
If there's ever a good time to take action and question brands, it's during the Fashion Revolution! The best way to discover the faces of the manufacturers and producers behind the clothes you wear every day, or not… depending on the answers you get to your questions.
So go ahead: ask all the brands you want! The principle is simple: choose a garment or accessory from your wardrobe and take a photo of yourself, making sure the label is clearly visible. Post it on social media with the hashtags #whomademyclothes and #iwanttoknow and encourage the brands to respond! Some will play along, others won't… But it's a good way to gauge the sincerity and commitment of brands to the environment and people… and of course, to see how interested brands are in this kind of event and how concerned (or not) they are with providing answers to their customers or potential customers.
Fashion Revolution also offers numerous events each year, organized all over the world, so that as many people as possible can participate in the movement! The program includes: conferences, workshops, creative activities, and DIY projects to give your clothes a second life; tattoo and hairstyling booths to show your commitment right down to your hair; information on choosing fairer and more responsible consumption; and many other activities and surprises! Furthermore (and importantly), an evening event is organized for the occasion. Free and open to all, there's no excuse not to attend, learn more, and become more aware of the pitfalls of the fashion industry.
A very enjoyable program and a good way to learn about a topic that is more relevant than ever!
