A belt, a strip of fabric, leather or any other material, often flexible, attached or not to the garment, is worn around the waist as an undisputed fashion accessory.
Classic belts are most often made of leather, but they also exist in fabric or plastic. They can feature all sorts of embellishments, such as studs, embroidery, stitching, etc. There are also various fastening systems: knots, belt buckles, tightening mechanisms… sometimes in very elaborate designs!
The backstory...
At the time, the belt was considered an essential item for hanging everyday accessories, used by both men and women. The cloth or leather belt was superseded in the 14th century by the half-belt, which carried strange relics and became a popular accessory.
Until the end of the 15th century, the belt remained an important part of the costume. Women initially simply tied it at the waist in front, letting the end fall to the bottom of the dress; for men, it rarely went down more than thirty centimeters.
