Fashion Revolution 2019

From April 22nd to 29th, 2019, Fashion Revolution Week will take place. JULES & JENN supports and participates in this movement that promotes ethics and transparency in the textile industry. Here's why…

Rana Plaza

How did the Fashion Revolution begin?

On April 24, 2013, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, a true catastrophe occurred. The Rana Plaza building, housing the garment factories of numerous subcontractors for clothing brands, collapsed. This tragedy left behind a devastating toll of 1,130 dead and at least 2,500 injured.

This historic event shook the textile industry, raising awareness of the unacceptable working conditions in garment factories, similar to those at Rana Plaza. It was a year after the tragedy that Carrie Somers, creator of the Pachacuti brand, initiated and launched the Fashion Revolution .

What is the Fashion Revolution?

Every year for the past six years, the Fashion Revolution has resonated in over 100 countries during the week of April 24th, the anniversary of the Rana Plaza collapse. The key words of the Fashion Revolution are transparency and ethics.

The fundamental goal of this movement is to make consumers aware that they have a powerful voice and that they can be heard. Together, they can change questionable practices: they have a say not only in the conditions under which the clothes and accessories they buy are produced, but also in their origin. The hashtag #WhoMadeMyClothes, demanding genuine transparency from brands, emerged. This hashtag has allowed textile companies to be challenged about their production locations and methods, pushing them to adopt more ethical practices that respect both people and the environment.

In order to respond to this collective call, brands also have a fundamental role to play in the Fashion Revolution.

Why is JULES & JENN taking part in the Fashion Revolution?

At JULES & JENN, transparency about our production locations and methods is central to our approach. We reveal the inner workings of all our manufacturing workshops , which are located in France and neighboring countries, including Italy, Portugal, and Spain. We systematically share the origin of our materials and a detailed breakdown of our manufacturing costs and profit margin. This transparency empowers consumers to make informed choices about the products they buy.

Thus, as with Fashion Revolution 2018 last year, we are once again taking part in the Fashion Revolution movement this year.
