A little bit of history...

The mule first appeared in the Middle Ages. Initially reserved for magistrates and religious figures, it was adopted by noblewomen in the 17th century. At that time, these shoes were adorned with high heels and made from fine materials (such as silk and precious stones). Women wore them only indoors, and they gradually became a symbol of wealth.

In the 19th century, however, mules were associated with prostitution due to the ease with which they could be removed. It was Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe who restored their prestige and glamour in the 1950s.

At JULES & JENN, we love mules that are colourful, summery and stylish! For you, we have designed timeless models, with or without heels, that you can keep season after season.

We designed our summer shoes to be as comfortable as they are stylish. Handmade in smooth leather or suede, they pair perfectly with every piece in our sustainable fashion wardrobe.

The flat mule manufacturing workshop

It is in the heart of Tuscany, in the traditional cradle of Italian leather, that we discovered the workshop that makes our mules. Here, the word "family" takes on its full meaning, as the owners, a couple and their daughter, have been crafting quality leather shoes for 25 years!

Together, over the years, they have developed a unique expertise resulting in unparalleled depth of color and a distinctive patina. The workshop itself dyes each piece of natural leather throughout, then patinates them individually by hand.

The workshop where the heeled mules are made

Hidden in the heart of the beautiful hills surrounding Porto, the traditional shoemaking region in Portugal, the workshop has been operating for almost 50 years.

With great professionalism, this small workshop has gradually specialized in the manufacture of urban and contemporary women's shoes. The expert hands of this small group of artisans work the materials perfectly and skillfully handle the tools and machines necessary for creating high-quality women's shoes.
